Poetry in Art

I hope my artwork will inspire you to imagine, explore, discover, experience, value, enjoy, feel...... the peace, tranquility, or energy of rivers, lakes, oceans, the calm, serenity, or power of sunrises and sunsets, the energy and grandeur of aspen forests, the sublime beauty and poetry of flowers.....

EVENING RED SKY

As the sun sets over the mesas, vermillion sky explodes.

THE SEA OF SUNSET
This is the land the sunset washes,
These are the banks of the Yellow Sea;
Where it rose, or whither it rushes,
These are the western mystery!  Emily Dickenson

SUNSET BRILLIANCE

What a breathtaking view at the end of the day, as the sun sets across the horizon on the red rock mesas.

ASPEN FIESTA
Acrylic on panel
24x48

These paintings are my tribute to the aspen groves in the Jemez Mountains. The rustling sound, as of a babbling brook, is produced by the friction of the leaves on one another.

The Aspen is valued for the grace and beauty of the grey bark and its rustling leaves. This rustling of the leaves, which are scarcely ever still even in the stillest air, is the most striking feature of the tree.

Autumn, "with his gold hand gilding the falling leaf," spreads its badge of splendid decay over each leaf in succession and the tree gains a variety of color.

"A perfect calm; that not a breath
Is heard to quiver through the closing woods,
Or rustling turn the many-twinkling leaves
Of aspen tall." Thompson
ASPEN CANOPY

Aspen forests are very important. They easily grow in a burned-out area. Aspen roots are very sturdy and don’t die even when there’s a fire. When the leaves fall in autumn it makes the soil very rich. It’s also good for other plants that grow there. Aspen trees provide food for many animals, especially the elk and deer.
WOODLAND CANOPY

The cottonwood trees along the Jemez River create a secluded haven.
